Key Findings
This study compared rates of injury of pedestrians and bicyclists in the US and Europe, and found far higher rates of injury in the US per mile traveled. The paper concluded with recommendations including traffic calming (narrower streets and other features), better facilities for walking and cycling (wider sidewalks and protected bike lanes), and urban design oriented to people and not cars.
